These Kid-friendly can-do descriptors were developed by John Wolfe, director of English Language Programming for Minneapolis ESL and his partner Rita Platte, a media specialist. I have gleaned a ton of valuable information from this duo.

Kid Friendly Can-Do Descriptor
Goal Setting Sheets John Wolfe and Rita Platt's Kid-Friendly Can-do's inspired me to make these goal setting sheets. I use them to send home W-APT scores to new students at our school, to guide our student goal setting, and as a visual for my initial compelling conversations with classroom teachers.
To use these sheets, I write the students ACCESS for ELLs or W-APT score in the left hand margin. I will then use a highlighter to create the outline of a bar graph for a nice visual to show where students are in the continuum of learning English. |

WIDA's Can-Do Name Charts
Using your W-APT or ACCESS for ELL data, these writable Can-Dos can be used to plan differentiation for your classroom at a glance. Teachers plot their English Learners to show where their students currently fall in the continuum of learning English in each domain.
